Embedding video in a post
« on: December 21, 2010, 11:49:29 PM »
Is it possible to use the youtube embed code to post a video or not.
And if so, how does one do it.

I read the reviews, Mytime, and they are mixed on the functionality of this patch.

is this one any good?  If you know one way or the other let me know.  I'll install it on my smf website and see how it does.

ok let me explain how to do this...

1st of all from what I found (thanking the Google gods) SMF can embed youtube vids without other software being installed.

this is the link to the Monty Python vid I did...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teMlv3ripSM

1.  delete the watch?
2.  delete the = next to the v
3.  put / around the v
4.  use the tag [flash]http://[/flash]

the vid above was changed to ['flash=480,320]http://www.youtube.com/v/teMlv3ripSM[/flash]
the numbers 480,320 are the size you want the vid to be.  Please keep it small.  Any overly large vids will be downsized by the mods.  The quote before the word flash was used to prevent the software from converting the example to the actual vid.  Don't use the quote.

Euchre,

Great that it works so easy and even better that it works without installing an additional component, which  may upgrading the SMF more cumbersome.

Sweet! A new technique for me to learn for this site.

But for now, I think I will stick to just posting the link to said video.
Dude! Look out for that.......    tree.  That had to hurt.

Hi All,

Euchre,
I tried this, but SMF seems to ignore the [flash] tag?

For the record, embedding videos in posts will only make the pages load much slower. I will continue to post links to videos, but will not embed them in posts.
