Dottie's Hip Operation. Installing a new hip joint.
« on: September 10, 2011, 10:59:04 PM »
Incred and I replaced a broken hip on my 2006 Realdoll "Dottie". We used a stainless steel hip that was custom manufactured specifically for this purpose.

We tossed her up on the Bar, and scrubbed in "Nurse Ceilidh" to administer the pain killer.

Nurse Ceilidh assured Dottie not to worry, then buried the needle in her leg... Knocking Dottie out... cold.

Never trust a redhead with a needle...

Here is the culprit...

Since the crotch had torn from the result of the hip break, we decided on the "Outside the Box" repair method. Versus cutting down the outside leg seam.
We exposed the joint but making the tear longer with smooth razor cuts.

It was fairly easy for Incred to remove the old joint while I took pics and cracked lame jokes.

(Note the "Wall-o-Doll" in the background)

The joint is completly removed. The silicone on the leg has torn open some more.

The pivot is attached to the leg.

Incred holds a complete joint.

That looked a big job  :o  like the new stainless joint, a great bit of kit, would of thought not a cheap item to get made. Incred did a great job repairing the cut.

Hope dottie pulls through ok and I bet she will be as good as new, if not better than new with the new joint  :)

Congratulations on a successful surgery, Incred and Camp.  I'm amazed at how several talented experts--you two--worked together to help repair beloved Dottie.

Way to go!!

Wow! Thats quite the operation, looks just as invasive as a human hip replacement. The new hip looks like beautifully crafted peice of machinery! From looking at the "initial close" pic, Dottie's gonna recover pretty seemlessly too!
"Leaving it to the imagination" is highly overrated.

Well done, Incred & Camp!

Mechwizard's replacement hips are a thing of beauty, and unbelievably strong. It's a shame that such works of art will be hidden from view forever, now.

I'm glad that you were able to get Dottie back together. The internet would be lost without "the hardest working doll on the internet."

Good news the patient is up and looking to climb that stripper pole  :-*

Yes, no rest for my patients. Got to get them on their feet right away.

I actually finished editing the pictures last night after the final gluing, and should have them in the album soon.

That's a VERY impressive repair  :o

the crotch has torn so it was a tear, but the cut you  created is so impressive  :o  Don't you regret not having cut the oustide leg's seam ? is the repair of the crotch's cut strong enough ?

i can't wait to see the other pics  :)

When the joint broke, the leg was unsupported and it created the tear. Dotties silicone is become prone to tears.  :-[

We did open the tear with a razor for a smooth cut, however anytime we applied any pressure, it just tore open wider.

You play the hand thats dealt...

It will be a combination of Increds amazing skills, photoshop and well placed garments that will help with Dottie's vanity.

Very well done, Incredi and Camp !

The 'crotch' entry for repair is a good choise, and yes, it is just as strong as the 'outside leg' entry, and allows for easier prevention of scarring.  The scars that does remain is also easily hidden.  8)

Congrats on a job well done, guys.

I'm sure that Dottie loves you for it, and will get even with Ceilidh about that needle thing eventually.  >:(

Mechwizard really does some nice work too, doesn't he.  What a cool looking piece of work he did.
