'Joyeux Noel' 2005

This is a truly tear jerking war film based on the true story of Christmas 1914 where Allied and Central soldiers crossed trenches to celebrate Christmas together. Amazingly these events weren't planned in advance just happened spontaneously all up and down the Western Front.

The film features real British, French, and German actors each speaking their native language and not actors speaking English phony French and German accents.

The actual characters are fictional. After a battle British soldiers are eager to avenge the death of their friends and can't wait to shoot the first German whom pops his head out from the trenches.

A German opera singer disobeys orders and walks into No Man's Land beautifully singing Christmas carols and the British snipers can't bring themselves to shoot him. This leads to ceasefire and Christmas celebration.

Unfortunately the officers and an Anglican priest are disciplined for their good will towards men. He's horrified as his church superiors even openly preach about the righteous slaughter of the inhuman Germans. This is also historically accurate. The Christmas of 1914 got a lot of positive press coverage and both sides disciplined their troops.
