Title: A Nickel in the Jukebox
Post by: noquiexis on March 30, 2010, 03:54:35 AM
A Nickel in the Jukebox

This is where members can add their favorite songs to the jukebox. The rules are simple:

  No copyright infringement
Direct links only. No sites that require registration or login.
MP3 s are fine if you can get them legally.
  MIDI sound files are acceptable.
If you get drunk, go barf somewhere else! Not on my jukebox!
Please do not pour drinks into the jukebox. It is not thirsty.

To play songs is a nickel apiece, or five for a quarter. Canadian money works well, too. Do not  Fonzi  my jukebox! (This means you, Camp!)  ;)

Here are just a few of the songs on the jukebox:

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Freebird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkTQUtx818w)

Codine Velvet Club

Hollywood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnSILYfzl54)

I like it!

Personally, I tent to shy away from the posting of the harder or newer rock music here, just because I do not know how many other people will like it, and also because I never thought of it fitting the theme of the Tipsy Barstool Inn.

Doesn't mean that I don't have any to post. Because I have lots.

This seems quite appropriate for today! (Posted on the third of June.)

June 3, 2017

Music has always been a big part of my life. It seems as though some song is always running through my head. Many things commonly remind me of a particular song. Any time between 6:46 and 6:59 reminds me of John Denver (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Denver). Why? Because it is "almost seven." His song Take Me Home, Country Roads (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTeUdJky9rY) (youTube video with lyrics) starts off with "Almost heaven... " See Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take_Me_Home,_Country_Roads).

The Third of June always reminds me of the Bobbie Gentry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobbie_Gentry) tune, Ode To Billy Joe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ode_to_Billie_Joe) (Wikipedia). (youTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZt5Q-u4crc)). The lyrics (below) start with "It was the third of June / Another sleepy, dusty, Delta day".

Several landmarks and areas are named in the song. The Mississippi Delta (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mississippi_Delta) mentioned in the song does not refer to the Mississippi River Delta (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mississippi_River_Delta), but is an area in the "distinctive northwest section of the state". I always wondered why the geography seemed out of place.

Ode to Billy Joe
Words and music by Bobbie Gentry
from: http://www.roughstock.com/cowpie/cowpie-songs/g/gentry_bobby/ode_to_billy_joe.crd

It was the third of June
Another sleepy, dusty, delta day
I was out choppin' cotton
And my brother was bailin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And Mama hollered at the back door,
"Y'all remember to wipe your feet."
Then she said, "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge
Today Billy Joe McAllister Jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge."

Papa said to Mama, as he passed around the black-eyed peas
"Well, Billy Joe never had a lick o'sense, pass the biscuits please
There's five more acres in the lower forty I've go to plow."
And Mama said it was a shame about Billy Joe anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe McAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge.

Brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billy Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carrol Country picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night
I'll have another piece of apple pie, you know, it don't seem right
I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge
And now you tell me Billy Joe jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge.

Mama said to me, "Child, what's happened to your appetite?
I been cookin' all mornin' and you haven't touched a single bite
That nice young preacher Brother Taylor dropped by today
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, Oh, by the way
He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge
And she an' Billy Joe was throwin' somethin' off the Tallahatchee Bridge."

A year has come and gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe
Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus goin' 'round, Papa caught it and died last spring
And now Mama doesn't seem to want to do much of anything
And me I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchee Bridge.

Added on the Third of June, 2018

This YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv33eaygVDQ) has pictures of the Tallahatchie Bridge and Bobbie Gentry walking across it.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ode_to_Billie_Joe:
"The bridge mentioned in this song collapsed in June 1972."
"Soon after the song's chart success, the Tallahatchie Bridge was visited by more individuals who wanted to jump off it. Since the bridge height was only 20 feet (6 m), death or injury was unlikely. To curb the trend, the Leflore County Board enacted a law fining jumpers $100."

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallahatchie_River:
"The wooden bridge collapsed in 1972 after being set alight by vandals. It crossed the Tallahatchie River at Money (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money,_Mississippi), about ten miles north of Greenwood, Mississippi. The bridge has since been replaced."

Electric Barbarella (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZobMzFJzL0U&ob=av3e) by Duran Druan.

For as long as I can remember this song, I always knew is was about an artificial companion. Since I discovered our type of doll, I have suspected it was about our type of doll. I think this video confirms that.

Well I've had dreams enough for one
And I've got love enough for three
I have my hopes to comfort me
I got my new horizons out to sea

But I'm never going to lose your precious gift
It will always be that way
Cos I know I'm going to find my own peace of mind
Someday...

Where is this place that we have found
Nobody knows where we are bound
I long to hear, I need to see
Cos I've shed tears too many for me

But I'm never going to lose your precious gift
It will always be that way
Cos I know I'm going to find my own peace of mind
Someday...

On the wind soaring free
Spread your wings
I'm beginning to see
Out of mind far from view
Beyond the reach of a nightmare come true

Well I've had dreams enough for one
And I got love enough for three
I have my hopes to comfort me
I got my new horizons out to sea

But I'm never going to lose your precious gift
It will always be that way
Cos I know I'm going to find my own peace of mind
Someday...
Someway...

The Moody Blues have been a favorite of mine since my father introduced them to me some years ago. Their use of the Melotron was an amazing piece of kit back then and still has a very unique sound that is actually starting to make a comeback.

Anyhow, here's another song by Nickleback Shakin' Hands. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkALx_O7MHU)

I just love this song!

Some of you may remember me kind of dancing in that mall is Las Vegas at AVN 2009 to a song playing on the radio, as we walked towards our dinner at the Capitol Grill (awesome meal by the way!).

It's called Paralyzer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJk6gZuPKRE&ob=av2e) by Finger Eleven. Its sung by two different aspects of the same person, about their experience of seeing a pretty girl in a club, and working up the courage to do anything about it.

Well that's my take on it, and it describes most of my club/pretty girl experiences.

Thats kinda neat LL. I like the The album cover art too. It's reminicant of the cover art that Earth Wind and Fire used on some of their albums.

Edit:  this is one of those song that has a certain haunting quailty that springs up in my mind once in a while.

99% of the time I listen to music for the tune not the words. and the tunes bring up vivid memories sometimes. this one for some reason brings up the time of late April / early May. A tranquill but dark and cloudy late afternoon.

What can I say? I do love teh RAWK!!!!  \\m//

How about we move in a slightly different direction then? LIke one of the currently playing songs on the radio and in the dance clubs across the world. I also have a deep love of Dance-Techno music.

And lets face it, when the music is pumping the blood in my veins, and on one of the rare occasions where I am actually dancing (amazing I know!) with a certain hot young lass, The DJ's Got Us Falling in Love Again (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBhj-Tv4WHI).   Usher ft. Pitbull.

Since I have received Feodora, my future appears much brighter. The words of this song are so very true!

A New Day Has Come (http://www.celinedion.com/)
Written by Aldo Nova, Stephan Moccio
Performed by Celine Dion

A New Day Has Come

I was waiting for so long
For a miracle to come
Everyone told me to be strong
Hold on and don't shed a tear

So through darkness and good times
I knew I'd make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for you

Hush now
I see a light in the sky
Oh it's almost blinding me
I can't believe I've been touched by an angel
With love

Let the rain come down
And wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul
And drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls

For a new sun
A new day has come
A new day has come

Where it was dark now there is light
Where there was pain, now there's joy
Where there was weakness, I found my strength
All in the eyes of a boy

Hush now
I see a light in the sky
Oh it's almost blinding me
I can't believe I've been touched by an angel
With love

Let the rain come down
And wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul
And drown my fears

Let it shatter the walls
For a new sun
A new day has come
A new day has come

Instrumental Chorus

Sweet! A cover of a song rarely improves upon the original, but sometimes I think it can happen.

Tina Turner sang the theme song for GoldenEye, and she did a great job. But the final high notes at the end always sounded like screeching to me, not singing.

Now a new GoldenEye 007 game is being released and it has a new version of the song being sung by PussyCat Dolls alum Nicole Scherzinger, and I think her high notes at the end of the song are better than Tina's.

Listen for your self!  Golden Eye - Nicole Scherzinger. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwHCI-HgpFM&feature=related)

I'm going to have to think about keeping a list of the songs already used in here so I don't have to go and review the whole thread to make sure I am not posting something again that I had already posted.

That said, since the E-Dawg was rockin the Hawk, I thought it might be a good idea to play a song that can be for a good hawk, or just some seriously hairsprayed big 80s hair.

I don't want no little riot. I don't want no mind riot. I don't want my riot to be quiet. I want it to be loud and proud!

^ Oh, OK, thanks!

Some Rammstein!  Turn it up and enjoy!

First my favorite song that I have heard of theirs,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAtLlwj8xSQ&feature=player_embedded

here are the lyrics:

Quote
English Translation:

Without you

I'm going to go into the fir trees
There where I last saw her
But the evening is throwing a cloth upon the land
and upon the ways behind the edge of the forest
And the forest it is so black and empty
Woe is me, oh woe
And the birds sing no more

Without you I cannot be
Without you
With you I am alone too
Without you
Without you I count the hours without you
With you the seconds stand still
They aren't worth it

On the branches in the ditches
it's now silent and without life
And breathing becomes oh so hard for me
Woe is me, oh woe
And the birds sing no more

Without you I cannot be
Without you
With you I am alone too
Without you
Without you I count the hours without you
With you the seconds stand still
They aren't worth it without you

Without you

Without you

Without you

Without you!

What an appropriate powerful song, applicable, at least I think, in regards to the justice brought to bin Laden:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3E8xYReEsg

Quote
A Call For Blood Lyrics

Your reign of terror is coming to an end
And all your victims' pain will be avenged
Taker of innocence, I want your demise
Tear you apart for the unspeakable things you tried to hide

[...]

Ten long fucking years
Your reign of terror is coming to an end
And I have no mercy for your soul
Your blood is on my hands

[...]

All their anguish, all their pain
All their nightmares, all their misery
It's all coming back to haunt you
Your time is up and you've no where to hide

What an excellent thread!  Music is a big part of my life so hopefully I can contribute here as well.

Here's a favorite music video, Footloose Dancing at the Movies that is a splendid collection of some 40 favorite dance movies, put to the song of Kenny Loggin's "Footloose."

I found some great music by Gay-Yee Westerhoff at http://gay-yee.com/ (http://gay-yee.com/). This is a flash-based website, so I have no direct links. Go to the MUSIC link and the playlist automatically loads. This is primarily cello music in the "easy listening" and "light classic/rock crossover" genres.

Gay-Yee is touring with the eletric string quartet Bond (http://www.bondquartet.com/).

Here are my favorites of Meytal's that I have seen.

BTW, Her first name is pronounced (May-tall) not (metal) common error seeing how she plays metal and all.
She says that's her actual first name, and it's common in Israel, she didn't start palying the drums until she was 18, and since her youtubes get lots of views, she gets endorsements, tours, even designed her own shirt, has posters for sale, etc. She has one of the most gorgeous smiles on those sexy lips of hers, that I've ever fucking seen on a girl before. She has a wonderful sense of life about her. Love watching her play, love watching her, too, of course!  )

She has a website: http://www.meytalcohen.com/ (http://www.meytalcohen.com/)

She has a Vlog on her youtube channel, too, she answers questions and stuff, I have only seen one of the Vlogs, have many more to go watch!   ;D  I even sent her some questions, see if she'd answer them, but I probably should have looked at all that was asked already, but no matter, I'm impatient.

So, let's take a trip. All the way back to the ancient days of 2007, when ODC wasn't even an idea yet.

http://www.youtube.com/v/dwpP3o_F-5o?version=3&hl=en_US

It's a compilation of the top 25 pop music songs in the US as decided by Billboard Music. And this mashup is pretty good.

But wait.... It gets even better!

Let's take it to 2008, and do something similar.

2008 had one of my favorite songs from the last few years: Viva La Vida by Cold Play. I'll have to check to see if I already posted it or not. It tells a great story.

I fondly remember 2009 as something of a big year for me. Went lots of places, did lots of things, and it was the year that ODC was formed!

Not to mention lots of fun music!

So here is more of that same mashup action giving us a taste of the music from 2009.

2010 was something of a trial for me, and many other people I know.

But the music was a good escape mechanism from the things that didn't go well.

Besides, we get to see a mostly naked Katy Perry's booty in this video!

And then there is 2011. An amazing year, with plenty of ups and downs, but mostly ups. First ever DollLAPalooza and the like. Great times!

Our photo skills and displays of our dolls have never been better, and the dolls never finer!

And if you haven't figured out the trend in my last few posts, some fun music too!

You can expect threads for the individual years these videos were made from in the relatively near future!

Dang these mashups are amazing things. Very clever!

The thing I love about maships so much, is that they mix up different songs in ways you probably wouldn't expect. Not to mention that when you get mega-mixes like the last few videos I have posted, it just might introduce you to music you wouldn't ordinarily think to listen to.

Ordinarily I am a rocker of all types. Metal, Clasic, 80s, 90, now, etc.. But I've spent the last year or so (at first) forcing myself to listen to pop stations on the radio or watch TheCoolTV (a music TV station) to aquaint myself with different music.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to listen to too many different kinds of music or too much music. With music, more is always better!

Metal \\m// is a very good thing.

But every once in a while, we need to post something else: The Question - by The Moody Blues

http://www.youtube.com/v/IBsdHoTdOmc?version=3&hl=en_US

I was introduced to the Moodies by my Father quite some years ago, when I first realized he listened to music other than the Christian stuff he and my Mother fed my little brother and I.

To this day, The Question remains my absolute favorite of their songs.

There aren't.  I looked at how muzza added a vid a while ago, and figured out how he did the code, by quoting his post and fucking around with it.

This is how I do it:

Use this:

[flash=640,390]http://www.youtube.com/v/

then plug your youtube link in on the end of it, but ONLY add everything AFTER the first equal sign in the youtube link, then close it, using the / and word flash and put it in brackets.  Just quote one of my posts and you will see how it's supposed to look.

This is what a whole youtube link is, plug it in to the above discarding everything but that which comes after the first = sign, and viola!

In other words, it should look like this:
          [flash=640,390]http://www.youtube.com/v/yEHCIzMn0iI[/ flash]
but without the space between "[/" and "flash]".  All you do is replace the portion that is red with the youtube link id.

Also, be aware that the numbers in the "[flash=640,390]" control the size of the window (width and height).  Please keep the window reasonably small (like 560,315).  You can provide a link for people who want to view it larger.

Thanks for your post NP.

There is such thing as too small...

Feel free to experiment to see if we can come up with the optimal size that permits viewing without missing the good stuff.  Belshanar has been using the 560x315 which seems to work ok, that is why I mentioned it.  Anyone who wants to offer a standardized size, go for it and post your results and reasoning.   Thanks everyone!

Has it really been so long since I last posted in here? Yep. It isn't that I haven't heard any worth while music (I've heard lots of it).

So, recently I got to listen to Garbage's newest album "Not Your Kind of People."

Beloved Freak (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlQpXmBXK1E) has really struck a special spot in my heart. Somewhere, down there, I still have not matured past that awkward person I was in High School who was afraid of other people and the person I might become. There were feelings in my heart that were and still are hard to reconcile with the person I appear to be on the outside.

In a way, for as normal as I behave and look, I still feel like a freak at times. My involvement with this doll hobby of ours doesn't help things in that regard (though I do love my dolls, and I'm sure if they had feelings, they would love me too).

So, it is nice to hear a song from a band I have long enjoyed that has a message of hope and happiness to it.

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!

Its been a really nasty winter here and in the rest of the world the weather has shaken its fist at us!
So, yesterday was a really nice sunny spring day , still a little chilly but with that wonderful light you get early in the year.
The bulbs I planted came up through the snow , waiting for the light to tell them to flower and grin at the world.
They are only the second thing I have ever planted in my garden!

(http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/7936/springhj.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/827/springhj.jpg/)

And now today its back to those gloomy leaden skies again, a cold drizzle of rain, the sort that makes you damp rather than wet and slowly chills you.
And then this song came to mind.
How I long to see some sun!

We just had our first 70 degree day today, the last of the snow pile is now gone. With the rest of the week raining, maybe we will get some flowers soon. Well we did have some snow drops come up.

I think we are all on the same latitude more or less Incred and Bluemouse so our weather is fairly similar.
Next year I will plant some snowdrops, they are wonderful popping out the snow like they do, how I love spring.
That and Autumn are my favourite seasons.

And following the theme of this thread my favourite violinist the ever amazing genius of Nigel Kennedy
Vivaldi- Spring, but listen to this mans incredible warm up, man, he can play a demon fiddle !!!!

Then theres my all time favourite musician ever, a man whose career I have followed since it began.
A man who could actually make music from feedback and then switch effortlessly to acoustic guitar.
And hes still touring ,he's playing here later this year.

So many tracks I love but which to choose?
These will do :)

Best band ?
Well for me a very influential one, saw them when Syd Barrett was still in the band  .
This album is probably their best but all their work is out of this world.

Who else but Pink Floyd (and which ones Pink?)

David Bowie. A Legend Gone...

I saw on the internet early this morning (Around 12:30am my time...) that David Bowie at 69 years old was gone from us
all. It was a shock to me when I saw that posted on the internet. All I was saying was "Aw man... No! No! No!!!. There were
even some folks that were saying it was a hoax, but when I turned on 89.3, The Current that I listen to, It was confirmed.

Bowie is absolutely an icon in the music / entertainment world. A very versatile person. Space Oddity, Let's Dance, Fame,
and for the "Michigan Gang" Panic in Detroit were some of his very well known hits. He also acted in several movies also.

It's ironic that his last album named "Blackstar" just came out. I think he knew this would be his last album / endeavor
and picked an appropriate title.

Going to really miss his talents. :(    litlluvr.

It's been a rough go for musicians late 2015 early 2016. We Lost  Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver fame...    Ian Frazer " Lemmy" Kilmister.  Lemmy was Motorhead .. Love there music or hate it.. I loved it.  He was and is a Rock icon.  David Bowie. That just shocked me and everyone else too the core.  I'm still reeling from that shocker.  Looks like Kieth Richards is going to outlive everyone!!! And dammit I hope he does!!! :thumb: A note worthy Canadian Musician From  The Toronto Area Suffered a heart attack on Tuesday. Kim Mitchell of Max Webster  and later a successful Canadian Solo Career. He Survived... Thank Goodness! .. It just goes to show that none of us are getting any younger.. So!  Rock on everyone!!! Or whatever your musical taste happens to be.... It is all good!! And it seems...  Life is way too short.

I had Dark Side of the Moon in 8-track when I first started driving in 1977.

Doors, Moody Blues, The Who, Jethro Tull... The sounds of my youth.

My favorite version of Comfortably Numb was on the Delicate Sound of Thunder album, Which I also got to see live in a football stadium.

If you like Floyd...

Check out this version of "Mother", sang by Sinead O'Conner, backed up by The Band.

Garth Hudson plays accordion, and Rick Danko, Levon Helm (with a Red Sox cap on   :thumb: ) and Roger Waters sing back-up.

This was from the Berlin Wall concert in 91.

Yes, we lived through a wonderful musical period ,are there any comparable bands now?
Went to nearly all the Floyd concerts in the UK, flying pigs ,amazing light shows says it all with unforgettable sounds
Must admit the dross on the Wireless (shows my age ) does not get listened to nowadays.
Luckily theres stations still playing old stuff which I listen to now and again .

and Camps choice is very pertinent to today with lyrics, "shall we drop the bomb, build a wall ,firing line,  should I trust the government !

My dad apparently put the headphones on me when I was a constipated toddler and played this:  Pink Floyd Animals- Pigs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhhzL8qkE3Y)
He said this cured me and I admit I've have never been constipated since. ;D

Pink Floyd Animals is my favourite Floyd album:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8puJpOQ8F8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8puJpOQ8F8)  Turn it up loud enough and the noises do strange things to you..  :o

We listened to a lot of stuff in his shed and I still love the music in his era more than music from my generation.  Recently remembered this: Spirit- Potato Land (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahgfYCflQp4)

Brilliant stuff and funny enough both albums have some George Orwell connection.
Quote
Waters was partly inspired by George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm in which people are divided up into groups represented by animals. While Orwell was focusing on Communism, Roger was criticizing his own Capitalist government. In Floyd's version the people are either Dogs, Pigs, or Sheep.

Kind of surprised me reading that the Spirit song based on George Orwell's book '1984': Spirit - 1984 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtzS93HDQeE) was banned from air play back in the day for being too controversial.   Saddened to read how Randy California died but he saved his son and sacrificed himself.

With the passing of Malcolm Young I looked at a few tributes form major rock stars, but particularly liked a set of 10 rifts from an unknown. No singing, just an extra drum track.

Here is another bit of unusual.    Country band goes Metal.  Watch all the intro riffs before the main event. You will recognize them all. I have a new found respect for Zac Brown.  :thumb:

setrack,

There was a time when putting a Nickel, a (United States five-cent coin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_(United_States_coin)) or Canadian five-cent coin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_(Canadian_coin))) into the coin slot of a Jukebox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jukebox) would allow you to play two songs. A Dime (United States ten-cent coin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dime_(United_States_coin)) or Canadian ten-cent coin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dime_(Canadian_coin))) would allow you to play five songs. In later years, a Quarter (United States coin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarter_(United_States_coin)) or Canadian coin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarter_(Canadian_coin)) {a twenty-five cent (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cent_(currency)) piece, or one quarter of that country's dollar}) was needed due to inflation.

Portable music players, particularly those that have earphones for private listening, caused the decline of the jukebox. One could have all the music they wanted without carrying a pocket full of coins. The initial cash outlay for these devices was offset by the number of songs the listener wanted to hear.

Bars and some "retro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retro_style)" diners still have a traditional jukebox. Some people have jukeboxes in their homes, although the need for coins may have been disabled by the owner.
