You'd buy an android if they were real?
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:31:04 PM »
Hey guys.

I was wondering about the future of dolls.
You know: new tecnologies are being developed and in a not so far future Male and Famale Androids will be a possibility.
So the question is there will be a market for this kind of product?

I am not talking about Roxxy ( the first sexual droid) . I am talking about robots who can walk,  make home tasks, talk and learn with you, take care of you...

So? What do you think about it?

LOL GIlda!  so I take it you're seriously wanting one?

Most of the technology to build one is already here.  The largest stumbling block at the moment is a good, compact power supply.
Besides being a companion, a true android could do household tasks, be a sentry to help keep your place safe, and maybe even call 911 for help if the need arose. 8)

Sure, were I not to be involved with a RG, I would very much like an android, provided I could afford the purchase price.
It's what I do. I run, and I know things.

Sophia - Miss Feb Boy Toy+; Amberly - Lovable Doll B2 (Yvette head) shares a body with Kara (Alicia Head); Ginger -  Sinthetics B1H+ (Celeste Head); Freja (Willow head); Yuki (Kimiko head); Alicia head.

No!
This android is from the classical Science Fiction Blade Runner, it was based in a book writen by Filip K Dirk.
Her name is Rachel ( Sean Young is the actress), also star Harrison Ford.

It's an excelent movie.

Actually, I'd like a Gynoid, a robot of the feminine persuasion.  8)

When I first saw Julie Newmar in the TV series, "My Living Doll", I wanted one. I was only a kid then, but I still want one. If I could afford such a doll, and if one existed, I certainly would have one. Therin lies the two major stumbling blocks. (Also Jean Marsh in "The Lonely" - Twilight Zone episode.)

Call me Old Fashioned....

I like that Dottie doesn't speak or move.

It just goes to show how much smarter she is by making me do all the work.

I'm afraid if she could speak, I would be the Dummy.

The android technology is an amazing thing and surely it will advance tenfold in the next few years.

Until then, My Imagination and I will enjoy simply playing with Dolls.

as B-Zilla brought up ... BladeRunner was a good flick that covered the idea nicely ... and yeah there are more than just one or two of us who would buy one happily if they existed  ;D

the idea was also covered ... probably more realisticly in the Spielberg movie "Artificial Intelligence" (2001, Based on Brian Aldiss' short story "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long")

just dont hold your breath waiting for "Roxxxy" to ever be developed into anything even potentially useful in that respect ... or the older project known as "Valerie" ..... both are nothing more than snake-oil

the idea was also covered more recently by the Japanese in the manga/anime "Chobits" and "Absolute Boyfriend"

now ... if you want a project to put your money on ... that is actually progressing very nicely ... she can now sing and dance, as well as walk and talk on her own .... there is the Japanese project HRP-4c

"She is 158 centimetres (5 feet, 2 inches) tall, weighing 43 kilos (95 pounds), including her battery."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HRP-4C
http://www.aist.go.jp/aist_e/latest_research/2009/20090513/20090513.html

if you google HRP-4c you can find links to a list of vids showing what she can do

now ... take an HRP-4c ... remove the outer shell pieces and give it to Hiroo of 4woods ... (or an Orient "Ange" ... or a Lifedoll "Real-Ai") .......... now THAT has very real possibilities  ;D
... thinking about an Orient "Ange" that can walk, talk, sing .......... sigh  :)

Hi all,

I agree on Theodoric, that the first "fembots" will come from Japan, or maybe China...
When they come, I think, then its done with the silicone doll market...
