Best Lawyer Story of the Year

This actually took place in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things, Fire. Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost 'in a series of small fires.'

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

     The lawyer sued and WON!

Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company, in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable 'fire' and was obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the cigars that perished in the 'fires'.

                                                    NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!  With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

This true story won First Place in last year's Criminal Lawyers Award contest.

What Starts With "F"

A first-grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, was having trouble with one of her more precocious students.
The teacher asked, 'Harry, what exactly is your problem?'

Harry answered, 'I'm  too smart for the 1st grade. My sister is in the 3rd grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too!'

Ms. Brooks finally had enough. She took Harry to the principal's office.

While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained the situation to the principal. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed.

Harry was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he happily agreed to take the test.

Principal:  'What  is 3 x 3?'
Harry: '9..'

Principal: 'What  is 6  x 6?'
Harry: '36.'

And so it went with every question the principal thought a bright 3rd grader should know.

The principal looks at Ms. Brooks and tells her, 'Y’know I reckon Harry can go to the 3rdgrade'

But Ms. Brooks, is still skeptical of the little bugger and says to the  principal,

'Not so fast, let me ask him a few questions' The principal and Harry both agree.

Ms. Brooks asks, 'What  does a cow have four of that I have only two of?'
Harry, after a moment: 'Legs....’

Ms.  Brooks: 'What is in your pants that you have, but I do not have?'
The principal wondered why would she ask such a question!
Harry replied: 'Pockets..’ to the Principal’s great relief…..

Ms. Brooks: 'What does a dog do that a man steps into?'
Harry: 'Pants.'

By now, the principal is sitting forward with his mouth hanging open.
Ms.. Brooks: 'What goes in hard and pink then comes out soft and sticky?'
Now the principal's eyes open really wide and before he could intervene,
Harry replied, 'Bubble gum.'

Ms.  Brooks: 'What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs?'
Harry: 'Shake hands.'

The principal is now trembling with apprehension as Ms. Brooks asks the last question,
Ms. Brooks: 'What word starts with an 'F' and ends in 'K' and indicates a great deal of heat and excitement?'
Harry: 'Firetruck.'

The principal breaths a huge sigh of relief and tells the teacher, "Put the little bastard in 5th-Grade, I got the last seven questions wrong  myself.."

A Bit of History

Take a trip back in time with a short tour of the Roadside America Museum in Hillsboro, Texas. This look into the museum created by Carroll Estes is brought to us by Texas Country Reporter. The Roadside America Museum contains about as fine a collection of 1940’s and 1950’s nostalgia that you’ll see anywhere. He’s got a large collection of Grapette memorabilia and his collection of classic cars is pretty unique as well.
