How to Take Measurements
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:01:24 AM »
This thread was inspired by Bronwen's post of LovableDoll measurements. :)

     From Bronwen's post:
Shoe size:
Dress size:
Bra size:

Here are a few ways to determine clothes sizes for any doll. Keep in mind that clothing manufacturers do not all agree on sizes.

Ring Sizer
Free Ring Sizer (image below).

In order to print the ring sizer above, be sure that your printer is set to 100%. Make sure that you have not reduced the print size in your printer 'page setup' area. You can verify that the sizer printed correctly by measuring it with a ruler; it should measure from left to right: 3 1/2 inches.

DETERMINING YOUR RING SIZE:  To determine your ring size:

1.  Cut a strip of paper five inches (5") long and one-half inch (1/2") wide (3 cm by 10 cm).

2.  Wrap the paper strip around the base of the appropriate finger.

3.  Use a pen or pencil to mark the point on the paper where the outside end of the paper strip overlaps (forming a complete circle).

4.  With a ruler, measure the length from the outside end to the mark on the paper to the nearest 1/16" of an inch or millimeter, rounding up if necessary.

5.  Find the closest measurement on the size chart in inches or millimeters and look to the far left column to determine your ring size.

Noquiexis, thanks for starting this thread. I've referred back to it several times already. I especially like the conversion charts.
I'm glad it's a sticky. Makes it easy to find when I need it. :D

Nice post! Much needed!
But also make sure, when taking measurements you also take into account the shape of the body.
My two dolls have a sandglass figure. (like most do I imagine) Thus, if I looked at the smallest measure, a skirt for example would really be hard to put on once they pass the thighs for example. But they would be completely loose around her waist. So, I check every measure and take the largest one into account. If for example, it is tight around the thighs but loose around the waste, there are always belts to help tighten it around the waist.
Some stores do take the shape of the body into account, so make sure to take it into account when you can.
Also, reviews of the product itself might help you decide if you should take a measurement smaller or higher.
